Science has discovered by expressing genuine gratitude, it can physically change your brain.
A study from Indian University was done with 43 people who suffered from anxiety or depression. The researchers divided them into two groups. Half were asked to write letters of gratitude to people in their lives for 20 minutes (total of 1 hour). The other group just attended the counseling with no gratitude exercise.
After the study was completed, those who performed the gratitude exercise not only felt more gratefulness two weeks after compared to the control group, but months following showing gratitude-related brain activity in their scans.
