It’s a busy time of year. Between the parties, decorations, shopping and wrapping, you still have to squeeze in the meal planning for the holidays.
No reason to stress. You can start today with a little bit of preparation, and your holidays will shine bright.

So let’s not put off what you really want to do. It’s time to …..
The K.I.S.S. ~ Trim your kitchen!
- Trim your calendar.
- Write down ALL your events. Leave nothing out.
- Be sure to include all your typical nights like family movie night, date night, etc.
- Add in your holiday jazz like concerts, neighborhood parties, gift exchanges, cookie exchanges, Christmas caroling, etc.
- Finally, cut out what overlaps. This will give your mind a break when you begin to panic one evening about … “What do I have to do tomorrow? I know I’m forgetting something.” No worries. No panic. You have already committed to what you will attend. Smile!
- Trim your meals.
- Stick to your go-to entrees. This is not the time to try something new, because you don’t want your feelings hurt. Be realistic. Stick to what works in your family. Leave the new for the New Year!
- Plan for 5-6 nights with one free night. You can do a 2 for 1, a leftover night, casserole night, pizza night, slow cooker night, and your free night. Dinner served!
- Trim your shopping list.
- Start with your BASICS (what you always use).
- Add your HIGHLIGHTS (what you need for parties/gatherings). This is the extra stuff you don’t normally purchase for the family.
- If you shop once a month, then for this holiday season, give yourself permission to shop twice a month. This allows space in your kitchen for “extra” stuff you don’t normally have.
- If you shop twice a month or weekly like me, you probably won’t need to make changes to your shopping schedule. Just don’t forget the list. Smile!
- Trim with color.
- These are your healthy quick grabs that you can pull out when unexpected guests arrive or the children bring over their friends.
- Carrots, celery sticks, pineapple chucks, clementines, grapes, peppers, etc.
- Have your favorite dipping sauce on hand. Again, you don’t have to do homemade. “You want sanity, give yourself some flexibility.”
- Trim your kitchen.
- Meal prep after your shopping spree. Yes! I know you may not want to, but it will keep you ready and smiling!
“You want sanity; give yourself some flexibility!”
