Whether you want to admit it or not, frustration is normal in relationships, especially marriage. You can’t expect to agree on everything and when life happens, bring on the frustration.
Communication in any relationship is vital if you want the relationship to thrive. However, how much of your time is spent on communicating with care and concern?

You might care about your spouse when he’s sick. But if he’s late for dinner with no reason or phone call given, you might feel differently.
And then you have those times you ask for help around the house or with the children. You get nothing or very limited assistance.
How is this fair? Why can’t he do his part? Why can’t she understand that help is needed?
This is just the beginning of many frustrating moments in marriage. But the real truth is, what happens when the frustration continues to build over time?
Do you think you just forget about it and move on?
Well, it would be amazing if that was the case because many marriages would not be destroyed. But again, frustration is just the beginning. It leads to anger, irritability, stress, resentment, depression, and even bitterness.
So if frustration is normal, how do you deal with it in your marriage?
You want to use it as a launching pad.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Use frustration as a launching pad!
You are not always going to agree and you are definitely going to have different opinions. All of this is normal. But how you go about handling it will either make or break your marriage.
Frustration is an emotion that occurs in situations where a person is blocked from reaching a desired outcome.
When you think about it, frustration is a selfish emotion.
Why am I getting frustrated here?
- Because I want it my way.
- Because I am right.
- Because I know best.
- Because …
You name it, you want it the way you see it. So instead of allowing frustration to get the upper hand, you take the higher road and use it as a launching pad for greatness in your marriage.
- Laugh more than yell. Humor breaks the tension. Laughter bridges a hurt heart.
- Listen more than speak. All of us want to be heard. But first, listen to your spouse.
- Love more than being right. You don’t have to be right all the time. And maybe you really are, but it’s not a game. This is life. And life needs love to thrive.
Lighten up a little. Life is way too short to be SO nit-picky at each other. Your vows were for better or for worse. And this includes when your spouse gets on your nerves.
Let it go! Dance a little more. See the humor. And then, get back to what you do best. Love each other!
