Who says rules have to apply to how you eat during the holidays? Throw what you know in the trash. Grab your plate and get ready to dash. Nutrition can be fun even when you don’t think. Stop putting up a stink and get something to drink.
Rhymes always make the tough things we need to talk about easier to swallow. No puns intended.

However, the holidays can be very challenging for most. We are good for days, weeks, and months. But then the temptations attract familiar feelings and drive us to what we used to know.
Food is comfort. Food is good. Food is hope. Food is fun.
Food ignites within us a sensual response stimulating all senses. It’s very gratifying.
But instead of staying steady of what might be, trust in what is. You have put in the work to come this far. Don’t throw it all away just for a day (or two, or three).
Who you are will not be changed by what you eat. BUT it will affect how you live, love, and impact.
So set the table and be oh so grateful!
The K.I.S.S. ~ Set the table and be oh so grateful!
Gratitude helps to separate what you thought you loved from what you know now. Consumption does not mean for you to endlessly consume.
Set the table and be oh so grateful!
- Take more breaks than you take trips. You don’t really need to go to the kitchen 40 times in one day, do you? Of course not. And if you have young kids, have someone else assist in their needs.
- Snack on what is green, not what is pale. There are always concerns and complaints about overeating during the holidays. Who doesn’t love a crunchy snack during a football game? So plan ahead and choose crunchies that are more healthy. If you want to add a splash of spice, add some dip with hot sauce, oh so nice.
- Give yourself three when everyone else chooses seven. Now that’s not a definite. But I think about how much stuff is at our family gatherings, and there is for sure at least seven things that are good for the eyes, but not so much the body. However, you can have all of those things, just not in the same quantity as before. Enjoy three bites instead of seven helpings. This way, you get to indulge without overdoing it.
Nutrition can be fun. Remember, it’s what you make it. Don’t let what you think you can’t have destroy the real meaning of the holidays. Focus on what matters to your heart and your health.
This Thanksgiving season, set the table and be oh so grateful!
