Are you eating and drinking sugar all day long? From the breakfast of champions to the snacks of dependence, what you eat is what you become.
With school to begin next week, I must say that breakfast and lunch are top of mind.

What my child puts in his/her mouth affects how they learn throughout the day.
Part of being a good mom is giving them the nutrition they need to thrive, not just survive.
As you know, I read a lot from diverse groups of people (i.e., researchers, physicians, moms, etc.) whose interest is in health and wellness. One article that crossed my path this week was from Dr. Robert Lustig. If you’re interested in reading the article, you can find the link in the show notes.
The article specifically addresses how processed food is harming kids’ brains and bodies.
This is a concern. What are you feeding your children? Is it right for both you and your family?
The only way to make the right decision for you is to guide your diet.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Guide your diet!
But unfortunately, everyone else is making claims to your family’s health through commercials, paid advertisements, social media, celebrity endorsements, and so many more.
This is where you need to understand that sugar is the culprit.
Breakfast cereal averages 12 grams of added sugar. Yet, the American Heart Association recommends 3 to 4 teaspoons of added sugar per day. 12 grams is about 2.4 teaspoons of sugar.
In just one bowl of cereal, you have reached your sugar for the day. How can this be the breakfast of champions?
“Sugar alters kids’ brain function in three ways—behavior, cognition, and affect.” (Dr. Robert Lustig, Metabolical, 2021)
The sad thing is, we think we are eating to grow taller, but it’s also making us wider.
What are you feeding your children? What are you feeding yourself?
If you desire clarity, alertness, less brain fog, and more focus, decrease your sugar intake. Look at what you are eating.
And remember, there are 262 names for sugar. If sugar (or any name representing sugar) is in the first three ingredients, you are eating dessert.
Your body cannot live on sugar alone. So save your liver and your gut. Eat nutrient-dense foods that are full of fiber and nutrients that feed the cells not send them into battle.
You and your family (especially your children) deserve to have a great start to every day. Kick-off your day with whole foods and experience the difference when you guide your diet.
Plus, you’ll bring a whole new meaning to the phrase “breakfast of champions”.
You, my friend, will be the champion to you and your family’s health!
