Have you ever thought that not doing anything can be positive? See how things can shift in the day when mom gives permission to be lazy.
My son was feeling under the weather a few days back. It’s very unusual for my children to get sick.

As a concerned mom, I immediately took his temperature and discussed all of his symptoms.
Now, this is my boy who likes to walk daily getting in over 10,000 steps a day.
But because he was sick and not feeling well, I basically told him not to walk the rest of the evening. To say the least, that crushed him and he blurted out, “when mom gives permission to be lazy.”
We all giggled, however, were taken back by what that statement makes possible.
Sometimes when you have permission to be lazy, it makes space for intentionality as to how you spend your time.
The K.I.S.S. ~ Be intentional about your time!
Be intentional about your time and your actions will follow suit.
Most of what we do in our day is create a to-do list and structure activities throughout the week. The strikes a certain time and you’re off to do what is scheduled.
But what about making room to be you, intentionally seeking time to spend time on you. No more activities or things to do. Just time to be intentional.
So how can you help your child be intentional with his/her time? S.E.E. what you can do!
- Schedule the lazy time during the day. This is where you make time to do nothing. Sounds strange. But if all you are doing is everything, you have to schedule to not do anything.
- Experience a day with no list. You don’t know what you’re missing until you experience it. When you don’t schedule out your day, you introduce flexibility (or adaptability) and that expands your day. Choices can become more flavorful.
- Encourage by asking how it’s going. Communication is key when you are trying something new or wanting something different.
And I want to encourage you to do the same thing in your life. Model it for your child. In our family, I am very skilled at creating space to be and become. However, my husband’s definition of productive is totally different. For the longest time, relaxation was not a part of his day ever. If he wasn’t working at work, he was working at home.
At some point, you need to find the flexibility that gives you life instead of always sucking the life out of you.
Our children are so bombarded with activities and deadlines. Very rarely do they make time to settle in to just be.
Get your protective self on and begin to show them how to be intentional with their time.
There is a time for everything … And the time to be who you are becoming is a gift we all deserve.
